PHARMACIES IN NEW YORK CITY

File Created: 02-Jul-08

Pharmacies

Most New York pharmacies, or American drug stores, are now a combination of the traditional pharmacy (or druggist) and a convenience store. This means that in addition to providing prescription and non-prescription (or over-the counter) medicines, pharmacies also sell a wide variety of toiletries and personal hygiene products. They usually even sell small appliances, stationery, candy and chocolate, and many other items.

As with many retail sectors, pharmacies are moving away from the locally run, independently owned store to the super-store chain. Some of the larger chain pharmacies are Walgreens, Duane Reed, and CVS. They have locations throughout the city and many of them are open 24 hours a day.
