Recycling in New York
New York City
See WASTE DISPOSAL .
New York recycles paper, glass, metals and plastic to reduce the flow of trash into landfills.
TYPInfo: Bottles and cans of beer and soda (but not water, tea, coffee or fruit juices) include a $.05 deposit which can be redeemed at the place of purchase, or many supermarkets that have "automatic bottle/can recycling machines." Many people, however, simply throw the bottles & cans into the trash. Hence, you will see many of the folks who live on our streets digging through the trash for bottles in order to earn a meagre temporary sustenance. See SOCIAL SERVICES.
