For over 50 years, the Public Theatre in lower Manhattan has staged many of the 20th century’s finest and most innovative theatrical events. This was especially true under the reign of Joseph Papp from the 1970s until his death. Also renowned for the Company’s annual Shakespeare in the Park series in Central Park. Ticket prices for performances are kept low or free of charge in order to attract a broad audience, and every performance space is handicap accessible, with free sign language interpreted performances offered during summer productions.
