AirTrain JFK

Using the MetroCard:
  • Fares: The fare for subway or local bus rides is $2.00. MetroCards can be bought as a Pay-Per-Ride card for amounts ranging from $4 to $80. Riders can also purchase an Unlimited Ride MetroCard such as the 1-Day Fun Pass, a 7-Day Unlimited Ride MetroCard or a 30-Day Pass.   • Where to Buy the MetroCard: MetroCards can be bought at subway station booths, all MetroCard vending machines and some neighborhood merchants. Visit the NYC MTA website for more information on where to buy MetroCards.
  • How to Use the MetroCard:
    • On the Subway: Hold the MetroCard with the MetroCard name facing toward you and quickly swipe the MetroCard through the turnstile in one smooth move. Walk through when the turnstile screen says GO. If there is a problem with the MetroCard, or if you swiped the card incorrectly the turnstile screen will give you instructions such as ”Please swipe again” or ”Swipe card againg at this turnstile”. Every time you use a Pay-Per-Ride MetroCard, the turnstile scree will display the amount paid and the balance. If you have purchased an Unlimited Ride card or you want to check your Pay-Per-Ride card, you can swipe your card through the MetroCard reader at any station.
    • On the Bus: As you board the bus, hold the MetroCard with the black stripe on the right and the MetroCard name facing you. A farebox will be ahead of you as you board the bus. Insert the MetroCard into the farebox. Your fare will automatically deducted and card will be returned. A message with the amount paid, the money left on the card or the date the card runs out will appear on the screen of the farebox.
  • Where is the MetroCard Accepted:
    • The MetroCard is accepted on MTA New York City Transit subways, local buses and express busses as well as the MTA Long Island Bus, MTA Staten Island Railway, most NYC private local and express bus lines and the JFK AirTrain.
    • Unlimited Ride MetroCards are accepted on MTA New York City Transit subways and local buses as well as the MTA Long Island Bus, the MTA Staten Island Railway and most NYC private buses.
